Archetypal Women Series
Watch the Behind the Scenes Video Slideshow for this Series
For my solo show at Pearce Gallery, I started a series of Archetypal Women – strong women figures from history, literature, popular culture, and mythology. I set out to re-imagine and explore what these female icons meant to me and our culture as a whole. I came up with elaborate cosutmes and shot on location and later edited the images to the level of fine art photographs. Some remain photographs that were printed on metal. Others became paintings and still others became fusion pieces of both painting and photography. This is the start of an ongoing personal project and I look forward to seeing were my muse will take me next.
So far I have done:
- The Firebird
- Nancy Drew
- Rosie the Riveter
- Quan Yin – the Buddhist Goddess of Compassion in a fusion piece
- Athena – Goddess of wisdom, just warefare and hand crafts
- Queen Elizabeth I
- Joan of Arc
- Evening Star – an Alphonse Mucha inspired fusion piece
